A Collection of Watercolours and Drawings by Austin Osman Spare, Christie's South Kensington, Thursday, 12 May, 1994 at 10.30 a.m.

London: Christie's South Kensington Ltd., 1994. First Edition. Softcover. Quarto. (10.5ins x 8ins) 36pp. Stiff pictorial colored wrappers. Color & black and white illustrations: 32 pictures are illustrated in monochrome, 18 in colour. One page Introduction by Gavin Semple. The generously illustrated catalogue detailing 128 works by Austin Osman Spare that were offered for auction at Christie's South Kensington in May 1994. The listing for each picture generally includes the year in which it was executed, provenance, whether and where signed, and sometimes the details of original gallery showings or other pertinent information. This copy from the library of British artist, writer and musician DAVID TIBET (founder of the music group Current 93) with his OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE on the verso of the title-page and notes on prices realised etc. throughout. David Tibet is well known for his interest in occult and outsider art, and obviously attended the auction, noting which works didn't sell, which did, the prices realised, and occasionally the buyers. A few other notes throughout - including one or two words in Tibetan. There is a blank sheet stapled to the back of the title page (David probably intended to make notes on this, but then gave up and just made them in the catalogue). Covers a little rubbed and creased, bottom of spine frayed and corners creased and rounded. A couple of light liquid splashes not affecting plates. Annotations throughout as noted. A well used, but still solid, G+ copy of an interesting association copy of this important reference work - which is all the more useful because of the annotations. Item #68453
