Thame: IHO, 2006. First Edition. Softcover. Large Quarto (12" x 9"), 96pp. Printed card covers in opaque, unprinted glassine "dust jacket". Tipped in colour frontispiece, colour and b&w plates and illustrations. A remarkable work. The book was created as a tribute to Spare, and copies were presented to each of 80 people who the editor and his advisors deemed to have made contributions to the increasing awareness of Spare's work. A list of the recipients was printed in black on the page before the start of the text, with the name of the individual recipient of a particular copy printed in red in his or her copy of the book. This particular copy was presented to British artist, writer and musician DAVID TIBET (founder of the music group Current 93) and it also has his OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE on the half-title page. Loosely inserted the original explanatory printed letter that accompanied the volume, with David's name added neatly in holograph and SIGNED by the publisher, Tony Naylor. A beautifully produced work, printed on permanent goatskin parchment paper. Approx. twenty-two colour reproductions of works by Spare, and numerous monochromes, photographs, and vignettes, many of which have not been previously reproduced. Text includes a variety of short texts by Spare, an essay by Denis Bardens: "No Man Shall Understand,"' two poems about Spare by Victor Neuburg, "The Theory of Re-currence" by Grace Rogers, Letters from Frank Letchford to Dennis Bardens (with much biographical material on Spare), etc. etc. Light signs of handling and use - top corner lightly bumped, else a tight, bright and unmarked near Fine copy in VG+ orginal publisher's glassine jacket which is complete but has just a few finger marks from handling.
