St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Publications, 1989. First Edition. Softcover. Octavo, xiv + 167pp + vipp adverts, b&w illustrations. Stated first printin. From the publisher: "Gray takes you on a journey into the history and significance of the Goddess in religion, he suggests the search for the Holy Grail was actually a search by the Church to bring back the feminine element into the concept of Deity and shows how you can evoke your own image of the Mother with rituals, evocations and discussion of our prime feminine deity." By William G. Gray (1913-1992), best known as the author of "Ladder of Lights" and "Magical Ritual Methods". Gray was for a short time associated with the Fraternity of the Inner Light, but his main magical mentor is said to have been the London-based Austrian occultist Emile Napoleon Hauenstein (1877–?). In November 1980 Gray and his friend Jacobus G. Swart formally founded a new magical order, the Sangreal Sodality, a group devoted to study and practice of the Western magical/inner tradition.
