Item #68709 Studies on the Legend of the Holy Grail. With Especial Reference to the Hypothesis of its Celtic Origin. Grail, Alfred NUTT.

Studies on the Legend of the Holy Grail. With Especial Reference to the Hypothesis of its Celtic Origin.

London: The Folk-Lore Society, 1888. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 282 pp. Original brown cloth with gilt titling and rules to spine; gilt decoration and black rules to front cover. Appendix and index. A lovely copy of the first edition of this landmark work in the history of Grail studies - it is the first work to be published in English to address many of the important points of the Grail legends, especially those suggestive of Celtic origins. Very light shelf wear, head of spine and points lightly bruised with just a hint of rubbing, modern generic bookplate on front pastedown, a few tiny inked numerals and signs of a light erasure to inside margin of dedication page, traces of a label and a tiny match-head sized hole to the rear free endpaper, a little light creasing to the fore-edge margin of a few leaves. Despite the few small flaws this is still a tight, clean fresh VG+ copy, in a binding as close to fine as one is likely to find (no dust jacket issued). Item #68709
