B&w photographic frontispiece and plates, b&w line-drawings in-text. Appendixes. A lovely copy of a scarce work on "Pyramidology". The author, Ethel Susan Graham Bristowe (1864–1952), was a British painter and enthusiastic amateur/alternative archaeologist and historian who wrote a number of works postulating that identified significant figures in the accepted history of the ancient Middle-East with others found in the Bible. Thus in "Sargon the Magnificent" (1927) she identified Sargon of Akkad, the first ruler of the Akkadian Empire with the Biblical Cain, whilst in "The Man Who Built the Great Pyramid" she equated its builder (generally thought to be Khufu) with Shem, the son of Noah. Not surprisingly Bristowes's theories and books found some support from British Israelites, various proponents of Christian Identity, and their fellow travellers. Spine a little leaned, hint of bruising to the corners, top edges of text-block a little flecked, otherwise a tight, clean, VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket (the jacket is a little darkened, particularly at the folds, and has a little shelf-rubbing to the spine. It is not price-clipped. Now in removable mylar sleeve. The first edition is always uncommon, but is genuinely rare in the original soft-paper dust jacket. Item #68735
