A biographical study of, and collection of writings by, Louis Claude de Saint-Martin (January 18, 1743 – 1803), the French mystical philosopher known as "le philosophe inconnu," ("the unknown philosopher"); the pseudonym the under which his works were published. Saint-Martin was for a number of years a follower of Martinez de Pasqually (1727 - 1774) and a high ranking initiate of de Pasqually's esoteric / masonic Ordre des Chevelier Maçons Élus Cohen de L’Univers, although he later pioneered his own, more mystically-inclined path. This book was first published in 1901 under the title "The Life of Louis Claude De Saint-Martin, and the Substance of His Transcendental Doctrine" (ie with the words opening words transposed). This new edition has a short Introductory essay by Paul M. Allen.
