Item #68772 Satan's Power: A Deviant Psychotherapy Cult. Process Church, William Sims BAINBRIDGE.

Satan's Power: A Deviant Psychotherapy Cult.

Berkeley, CA: University of California Press, 1978. First edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. viii + 312pp. Purple cloth lettered in gilt on spine. B/w illustrations. Bibliography & index. The author refers to this as being "an analytical ethnography and psychohistory" of a "satanic" and "deviant psychotherapy cult" started in 1963 in Boston which he identifies as "The Power." In fact the book is said to be a thinly-veiled study of the "Process Church of the Final Judgment," the well-known quasi-occult countercultural movement that flourished in the late 1960s-early 1970s, with only the names changed, presumably to protect from litigation. Very slight bruising to spine ends, a bit of tape offset to endpapers from early dust jacket cover, page edges unevenly darkened, else a bright unmarked VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket. (Dust jacket lightly rubbed and creased at edges, tape offsett to turnovers, not clipped. Now in new protective mylar cover. Item #68772
