Aleister Crowley: The Man: The Mage: The Poet.

London: The Richards Press, 1951. First edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 232pp. Maroon cloth with gilt title, etc. to front cover, b&w frontisportrait of Crowley, b&w illustrations, bibliography, index. A much under-rated biographical memoir of Crowley that was largely ignored as it happened to be published almost simultaneously with John Symonds' far more sensationalist - and thus attention grabbing, "The Great Beast." The author, Charles Richard Cammell, was a friend, but never a follower, of Crowley's, and this memoir is a more personal reflection on the man than is usually found. As Cammell wrote: "I saw A.C. frequently. I came to know him well: better mentally, I believe, than many who knew him longer and, in a sense, more intimately." Includes Edward Noel FitzGerald's short bibliography of works by Crowley. Spine ends and corners a little bruised, touch of general shlef a little rubbing to edges, top edge darkened and foxed. The tipped-in frontispiece has been somewhat inexpertly inserted by the binder (this is such a minor flaw that most would not notice it) and there is a small ink stamp "Printed in Great Britain" twice on title-page (perhaps denoting that this copy was intended for export). Pages lightly toned but clean. Overall - a tight, unmarked VG + copy in Good + mylar protected example of the scarce, thin-paper, dust jacket (Dust jacket is a little darkened & shelf worn overall. All edges and extremities chafed, creased and chipped, one half inch chip with loss to upper spine, not clipped). Item #69162
