A beautifully framed large limited edition poster / print of a 1918 oil painting /self-portrait of Crowley as "The Master Therion"
Crediton, Devon, England: Baphomet 93 Limited, 1993. First Edition - Limited. A large (Image-size, approx.19 1/2 x 14" inches, outer frame dimensions approx. 28 1/2 x 17") full colour limited edition print of this famous self-portrait of Aleister Crowley as To Mega Therion, painted by him in 1918. The painting was lost for many years, and is said to have been eventually rediscovered hidden under a bed in Devon, after which is was cleaned, and this print produced in 1993 in a sealed, hand-numbered edition of 666 copies (the seal, numbering etc. are on the reverse of the frame). In 1998 Crowley scholar Martin P. Starr was invited to give a lecture at the retrospective exhibition of Crowley's artwork being held at the October gallery in London. His lecture: "Aleister Crowley: Virgin Painter or Old Master" was presented on April 7th, and was much appreciated by the audience. Later, John Bonner, a senior of the British O.T.O. and one of the event organisors, gave Starr this print in thanks for his labours preparing and delivering the lecture. Starr took the picture back to America and commissioned an exquisite, black wooden custom frame for it from a well-known Chicago framer (see photograph). The print appears as new, the frame almost thus.
