"The Early Work of Austin Osman Spare, 1900-1919": x + 22pp (Color frontis, 25 half-tone illustrations loosely inserted); & "The Later Work of Austin Osman Spare, 1917-1956": xii + 32pp (+ 12pp. plates). Despite different publication dates, these volumes are bound to match, each printed on quality paper, sewn in thick grey and green paper wrappers with paper title labels, over plain paper boards. According to Harper only 300 copies printed. The first edition of William Wallace's study of Spare's early work, and its influences. The publication of these books was an important step in the 'rediscovery' of Spare by a new generation which began in the 1970's and gathered momentum in the decades thereafter. "Early Works" has a few faint marks on rear cover, "Later Works" has a few small ripple at the inner margin of the frontispiece (obviously a legacy of the process of tipping it in). Else both appear "as new" thus a near Fine set. Scarce - especially as a set. Item #69239
