Complete in itself, the work was originally intended as an extended introduction to a translation of the Mahanirvana Tantra (Tantra of the Great Liberation) by Sir John Woodroffe (1865-1936). Woodroffe, who also used the pseudonym Arthur Avalon, was a leading jurist who devoted much of his free time to the study of Sanskrit and Hindu religion, in particular tantrism, and was largely responsible for its introduction to the English speaking West through the books he wrote on the subject. Light age wear, bruising to the spine ends and corners, endpages unevenly browned, owner's name on front blank, pages toned but unmarked.
