The American Theosophist. A Journal of Occultism ( Vol. XIV, No, 10, July, 1913 ).

Krotona, Hollywood, CA: American Section of the Theosophical Society, 1913. First Edition. Softcover. Small quarto. (xvi adverts) 795-872 (ii - Lodge directory) Pictorial wrappers. According to Pat Deveney "The American Theosophist" was founded in 1908, but was absorbed by the older "Theosophic Messenger" (founded 1899) in 1909, was renamed "American Theosophist and Theosophic Messenger" in 1912, but reverted back to "The American Theosophist" in 1913 at the time that this issue came out. It was the official journal of the American Section of the Theosophical Society from 1907 onward. The journal ran articles of broad interests to Theosophists, though it clearly supported Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 – 1934) who was effectively forced to resign from the TS in 1906 before being reinstated in 1908. This issue includes Leadbeater's essay "Exaggeration." Some of the other essays are "The Sacramental Life" by Claude Bragdon; The Knights Templars by Elisabeth Severs; The Coming of Great Teacher by Mary K. Neff; An Astral Tragedy by Adie M. Tuttle; The Parable of the Three Old Men by Leo Tolstoi, 2 full page line drawings: "Symbolical Pictures - the Rosy Cross" by Horton, etc etc. Also "clippings and comments", Reviews, and advertisements. Light crease across top edge, general modest wear but better condition than typical for a journal of this vintage. Item #69312
