The American Theosophist. A Journal of Occultism ( Vol. XIV, No, 9, June, 1913 ).

Krotona, Hollywood, CA: American Section of the Theosophical Society, 1913. First Edition. Softcover. Small quarto. (xvi contents & adverts) 715-794. Pictorial wrappers. According to Pat Deveney "The American Theosophist" was founded in 1908, but was absorbed by the older "Theosophic Messenger" (founded 1899) in 1909 was renamed "American Theosophist and Theosophic Messenger" in 1912, but reverted back to "The American Theosophist" in 1913 at the time that this issue came out. It was the official journal of the American Section of the Theosophical Society from 1907 onward. The journal ran articles of broad interests to Theosophists, though it clearly supported Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 – 1934) who was effectively forced to resign from the TS in 1906 before being reinstated in 1908. This issue includes Civilization Compels Prison Reform by George W. Hunt; The Open Road to the Masters by Annie Besant; The Nineteenth Century Trimurti by Charles Lazenby; Exoteric and Esoteric (Concluded) by C. W. Leadbeater, Symbolical Picture - The Conqueror Sould by Horton; etc etc. Also "clippings and comments", Reviews, and advertisements. Covers a little rubbed and marked overall, appears to have been exposed to damp as although there is no real discoloration and they have not stuck together at all, the pages nonetheless have a sort of "waviness" through them. A number of corners "dog-eared." Spine chipping a little but still a solid copy in basically G condition for a journal of this vintage. Item #69325
