The American Theosophist. A Journal of Occultism ( Vol. XIV, No, 8, May, 1913 ).

Krotona, Hollywood, CA: American Section of the Theosophical Society, 1913. First Edition. Softcover. Small quarto. (xvi contents & adverts) 619-714 (xvi lodge notice & adverts)pp. Pictorial wrappers. According to Pat Deveney "The American Theosophist" was founded in 1908, but was absorbed by the older "Theosophic Messenger" (founded 1899) in 1909 was renamed "American Theosophist and Theosophic Messenger" in 1912, but reverted back to "The American Theosophist" in 1913 at the time that this issue came out. It was the official journal of the American Section of the Theosophical Society from 1907 onward. The journal ran articles of broad interests to Theosophists, though it clearly supported Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 – 1934) who was effectively forced to resign from the TS in 1906 before being reinstated in 1908. This issue concentrates somewhat on Madame Blavatsky in recognition of the anniversary of her death. It includes essays An Interview with Madame Blavatsky by The N.Y. World; A Lotus Interpretation by L. Turner Lindsey; Theosophy of Paravidya by Annie Besant; Symbolism in American History by L. Turner Lindey; Exoteric and Esoteric by C. W. Leadbeater, Occult Caves by Charles Lazenby; 3 pages of pseudonymous Visions of the Titanic Disaster; etc etc. Also "clippings and comments", Reviews, and advertisements. Covers a little rubbed and faded, and a few pages have pencil lines in the margins. Spine chipping a little but still a solid copy in VG+ condition for a journal of this vintage. Item #69327
