Krotona, Hollywood, CA: American Section of the Theosophical Society, 1913. First Edition. Softcover. Small quarto. (ii contents & frontis) 685-760 (xx lodge notice & adverts)pp. Pictorial wrappers. According to Pat Deveney "The American Theosophist" was founded in 1908, but was absorbed by the older "Theosophic Messenger" (founded 1899) in 1909 was renamed "American Theosophist and Theosophic Messenger" in 1912, but reverted back to "The American Theosophist" in 1913 at the time that this issue came out. It was the official journal of the American Section of the Theosophical Society from 1907 onward. The journal ran articles of broad interests to Theosophists, though it clearly supported Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 – 1934) who was effectively forced to resign from the TS in 1906 before being reinstated in 1908. This issue includes essays Psychic and Spiritual Development by Annie Besant; Astrology the Soul of Phenician Belief by Maud Lindon; Bergson, Eucken, and Isis, the Great Mother by C. H. A. Bjerregaard; The Story of Tobias by L. Turner Lindey; The God of Evil by Bolton Hall etc etc. Also "clippings and comments", Reviews, and advertisements. Covers a little rubbed, a hint of creasing, still a solid copy in VG+ condition for a journal of this vintage. Item #69329
