According to Pat Deveney "The American Theosophist" was founded in 1908, but was absorbed by the older "Theosophic Messenger" (founded 1899) in 1909 was renamed "American Theosophist and Theosophic Messenger" in 1912, but reverted back to "The American Theosophist" in 1913 at the time that this issue came out. It was the official journal of the American Section of the Theosophical Society from 1907 onward. The journal ran articles of broad interests to Theosophists, though it clearly supported Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 – 1934) who was effectively forced to resign from the TS in 1906 before being reinstated in 1908. This issue includes essays Damodar K. Mavalankar by Adelia H. Taffinder; The Dream of the Star by Elisabeth Severs; Science to Lift the Veil by Eva G. Taylor;Discipline, Its Stages, Uses and Abuses by Captain Hugh W. Gayer; etc etc. Also "clippings and comments", Reviews, and advertisements. Missing first leaf (pp. i & ii) with contents and advertisements. Otherwise complete. Covers a little rubbed and quite darkened, some pencil scrawl on rear cover, head and tail of spine chipped but still a solid copy in VG condition for a journal of this vintage. Item #69331
