Madras, India: The Theosophist Office, 1912. Second edition. Hardcover. Octavo. x + 306pp + vipp adverts. Original blue cloth illustrated in black, striking b&w illustrated half-title page. The second edition - the first was published nine months earlier - in October 1911. A collection of supposedly "true" stories - recounted as fiction - by Leadbeater including: "The Perfume of Egypt", "The Forsaken Temple", "The Major's Promise", "A Test of Courage", "An Astral Murder", "A Triple Warning", "The Concealed Confession", "The Baron's Room", and "Saved by a Ghost". The author, Charles Webster Leadbeater (1854 - 1934), was a prominent if controversial member of the Theosophical Society, co-founder of the Liberal Catholic Church, and author of many books on various aspects of occultism. Cloth lightly rubbed and and a bit darkened at spine and edges of boards, faint dark spots to lower edge of rear board and lower spine, spine ends & corners lightly chafed. Front hinge cracked but holding firm, page edges and endpapers unevenly browned, bookshop label on front pastedown, overall a tight and clean VG copy. (No dust jacket). Item #69335
