Myths of Pre-Columbian America.

London: Gresham Publishing Company Limited, ND [ 1920s ? ]. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 352pp. Gray series cloth with brown titling to spine and upper board; yellow rules and illustration on upper board; color frontis with tissue guard; title page illustrated in green, b&w illustrations; fold-out map, index. The author, Donald Alexander Mackenzie (1873 – 1936), was a Scottish journalist and folklorist who wrote extensively on religion, mythology and anthropology in the early 20th century. This is one of a number of matched volumes in a series, each of which focused on a particular region or time period. Mackenzie obviously drew from a large number of sources when preparing this particular volume on pre-Colombian mythology but it is interesting to note from his Preface that he was evidently still attracted to then largely discredited notions of hyperfusionism, as he accepts that there was a Buddhist / Indic influence in the culture of the pre-Colombian Americas. Some light shelfwear to the boards, a little flecking to the inside margin of the rear board, and a little rubbing to the bottom edge. Fore and bottom edges of text block slightly foxed. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy (no dust jacket). Item #69348
