Dark blue cloth with gilt title etc. to spine. This edition is limited to 200 hand-numbered copies - this being copy no. 47 and was thus quickly out of print upon issue. From publisher: "This is a facsimile reprint of the first edition, Cambridge, England, 1852. This edition has undergone some changes and thus is copyright 2016 Aeon Sophia. The work comprises a the text and translation, (along with extensive introduction and notes), of a Graeco-Egyptian papyrus preserved in the British Museum (N. XLVI. Greek.) The text, which is said to date to the first centuries of the current era comprises ten short, fragmentary chapters, on various aspects of the magical arts." As is well-known the fourth section comprises a short ritual which was later incorporated into the practices of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and was adapted by Aleister Crowley as the preliminary invocation for his edition of "The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King" and then reworked by him into "Liber Samekh" - his ritual for attaining the "Knowledge and Conversation" of the Holy Guardian Angel. Very light shelf-wear to cloth, boards very lightly warped, internally bright and clean. Appears unread. Overall a bright, clean, near Fine copy (no dust jacket issued). Item #69417
