Saxon Northumbrian Pagan Runes and Rune Divination.

Saxon Northumbrian Pagan Runes and Rune Divination.

[ Seattle, WA ]: [ Catweasel Productions ], ( 1980 ). First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Small format (5.75 x 4.25 inches). viii + 69pp. Beige cloth spine over red papered boards. Edition limited to 100 handbound copies, this copy being hand-numbered 37. From the introduction: "An account of the Runes used by the Saxon Northumbrian Pagan people, here compiled from a text written on the same in the year 1474, being a historical treatise. Set forth by the Order of Northumbria, for all Pagans and Wytches everywhere." The book comprises a six page introduction, 67 pages illustrating runes and their meanings (typically ten runes to a page) and a two page essay "How Runes are Cast." A genuine rarity there is no record of any copies being held institutionally anywhere, including the British Library and the Library of Congress. The book itself is completely devoid of any publication details other than the limitation statement and the author's name (which sounds suspiciously like a possibly-anagramatic pseudonym) , but we are reliably informed it was published circa 1980 by Acorn Grimoire Makers / Catweasel Productions of Ontario Canada / Seattle, WA. The size, format, and method of production is highly reminiscent of other books by Catweasel Productions that we have had in the past that date from the same period, so we have no doubt this is correct. Very light shelf wear, boards lightly faded, book shop label on front pastedown - else a clean unmarked near Fine copy. A genuine rarity. Item #69489
