Small quarto. 98pp. Quarter leather with raised bands, stamped gilt decorations to spine, blue cloth boards with title-label inset into front board. Top edge gilt. Decorated endpapers. Printed in red and black, a few sigils in text. Housed in the original slip case bound in matching book-cloth with patterned paper panels, lined with a suede-like material and with a gilt stamped leather title-label. The total printing of this edition was limited to 120 numbered copies - the first 12 of which were the "best issue" with special binding and slipcase. This being copy number 3, is one of those 12. An interesting and generally overlooked work on ritual magic. It was originally published as an appendix to the third edition of Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft (1665) but was omitted from almost all later editions. The work is in two parts. The first part details rites of necromancy, the conjuration of infernal spirits, a ritual for the invocation of the magician of his own Genius or Good Angel into a skrying crystal, and a ritual for the obtaining of a familiar. It includes detailed descriptions of ritual regalia and the performance of the rituals. The second part is a treatise on the nature of spirits. A beautifully crafted book. Obviously rare in this form. As new - thus in Fine condition. Item #69515
