Octavos. xx + 246pp & xviii + 228pp. Both volumes bound in original brown series cloth with black titling to spine, black title and border to upper boards. These are the 26th and 27th books in this series and are uniformly bound as are all of the "Books on Egypt and Chaldea" series. All volumes in the series were published separately but are each complete either within themselves, or, as in this case, as a sub-group. Thus Vols. XXVI and XXVII offered here, are the complete two volume set which contains a translation of the Egyptian 'Book of Opening the Mouth', describing ceremonies which originated among the primitive indigenous inhabitants of the Nile Valley, and reproducing the ancient formulae which were recited during their performance. Cloth lightly shelf-rubbed and with a few faint marks from use, spines a little faded and discoloured, corners lightly bruised and chafed, edges of text block darkened, endpapers unevenly tonded and there is an owner's name and dates 1925, pages toned but clean and unmarked. Overall a tight, and clean VG set. Scarce in set. Item #69595
