London: G. Bell & Sons (Bohn's Libraries), 1893. Reprint. Hardcover. Octavo. xiv + 492pp + 64pp tables. Original red cloth gilt-lettered on spine. Two fold-out illustrations. Astrological diagrams. "Christian Astrology,is the most significant work of the foremost 17th century English astrologer, William Lilly (1602 - 1681), who famously predicted the Great Fire of London in 1666. The book is renowned as the most definitive work on horary astrology ever written in English. Curously the "Christian" of the title would appear to be largely camouflage - presumably placed there to protect the author from suggestions that he was a heretic dabbling in the diabolic arts. The book was first published in 1647, there was a second edition in 1659. and later published in this format in 1835 with an Introduction by the English astrologer Zadkiel (Richard James Morrison: 1795 – 1874) who was best known his series known as "Zadkiel's Almanac." Spine a little leaned, lightly bruised at head and tail, points bruised and a little rubbed, some darkening to cloth. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper, edges of text block darkened, a few chips to margins of pages from careless opening. Still a solid Good+ copy. Item #69667
