Item #69814 Notice. The Church of Thelema is Now Established. W. T. SMITH, Helen Parsons Smith.

Notice. The Church of Thelema is Now Established ...

Hollywood, California: Privately Printed, NP, ND [1949?]. First edition. First edition. A single sheet of off-white paper, 6 x 8 inches, with printed text on one. A broadsheet announcing that the Church of Thelema "is now established in its own premises at 2140 North Beachwood Drive - Hollywood." Interestingly the broadsheet begins with an appeal to cold-war sensitivities - "Freedom is threatened in all parts of the world by the advance of Communism and allied ideologies" before encouraging the reader to help further the work of the Master Therion to help in the preservation of individual liberty. The Church of Thelema was founded by Wilfred Talbot Smith - a long term associate of Aleister Crowley, and subject of Martin Starr's biography "The Unknown God." Smith was an initiate of Aleister Crowley's A.'. A.'. and effectively second in command of the original "Agape Lodge" of the Ordo Templi Orientis in Vancouver, and went on to head "Agape Lodge" in California. The flyer carries the name of Helen Parsons (Helen Parsons Smith: 1910 - 2003), ex-wife of Jack Parsons and widow of Wilfred T. Smith, herself a long time senior member of Agape Lodge, and later founder of Thelema Publications. A near-Fine copy. Item #69814
