Boston, MA: Weiser Books, (2001). First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo. (ii) + 384pp. Glossy card covers. Index. B/w frontis. & illustrations. An unusual edition of this classic work, with a short (one-and-a-half page) Foreword by bookseller and publisher Donald Weiser. It includes the complete text of the work originally published as "The History of Magic, including a clear and precise Exposition of Its Procedure, Its Rites and Its Mysteries." Levi's work was described by the translator, A. E. Waite as 'the most arresting, entertaining and brilliant of all studies on the subject with which I am acquainted.' The author, Eliphas Levi (1810-1875) was of course one of the most important figures of the nineteenth century occult revival, and was claimed by Aleister Crowley to be an earlier incarnation of himself. A tight, clean, Near-fine copy of an uncommon edition. Item #69929
