History of Magic & Experimental Science; Vols. I & II: The First Thirteen Centuries, Vols. II & IV: Fourteenth and Fifteenth Centuries; Vols. V & VI: Sixteenth Century. Vols. VII & VIII: Seventeenth Century ( 8 Volume Set ).

New York, NY: Columbia University Press, ND [Circa 1970s]. Reprints. Hardcover. Eight volumes (complete set). Octavos. Vol. I: xl + 836pp.; Vol. II: viii + 1036pp.; Vol. III: xxvi + 830pp.; Vol. IV: xviii + 770pp.; Vol. V: xxii + 696pp.; Vol. VI: xviii + 766pp; Vol. VII: x + 696pp. Vol. VIII: viii + 808pp. Original green cloth. Indexes & biblios. A complete set of Thorndike's classic "History of Magic & Experimental Science" in uniform bindings (ie the set has certainly been together from new - it has not been made up with volumes from different sources, thus they are all of matching appearance). All volumes undated but are reprints circa 1970s. A minimal amount of shelf-wear, with a few very light hints of discoloration, and the spine of Vol. VIII very slightly concave (the discoloration looks worse in the photograph than in reality - most would not even notice it). Overall they have the appearance of having had very little use. The top edges of the text blocks are somewhat foxed and a bit darkened, fore-edges dusty and with a few light marks and some have a hint of flecking. Internally the volumes are tight, clean and bright. Overall a VG+ matched set. The volumes were issued without dust jackets, and instead had plain glassine sleeves. These were very fragile, and unlike dust jackets were meant to be discarded - they were just supplied to protect the cloth from rubbing in transit from the publishers. As typical this set does not have the glassine sleeves. A large, heavy set that will require additional shipping to the amount automatically quoted, the cost varying according to destination.
