Chicago, IL: The Aries Press, 1937,1938,1939, 1940. First Editions. Hardcovers. Large Octavos. Four volumes (complete set). Vol. I: 232pp; Vol. II: 300pp; Vol. III: 280pp & Vol. IV: 368pp. Original black cloth with gilt titles, etc. to spines. Color frontispiece & 2 color folds out in Vol. I, b&w frontispiece in Vol. II. The first edition of Regardie's landmark publication of the rituals and teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (or more correctly the recensions used by the Stella Matutina, the Order to which he had belonged). A solid but well used set. This copy set has presumably been kept in a damp house, so it has a somewhat musty smell which would probably leave if aired out in a dry place. Corners bruised and a little rubbed, general modest shelf-wear to cloth, small old "Samuel Weiser" bookshop labels on front pastedowns of three volumes, owner's presentation notes on front free endpapers of volumes I and 4. Vol. I is definitely the shabbiest: the edges are quite darkened, the two fold out plates are both neat facsimiles, there is pale foxing and toning throughout. Vol 2: Frontispiece and title-page heavily toned, edges darkened, a few light marks; Vol 3: light bump to top corner of text block, edges darkened and flecked; Vol. IV endpapers unevenly toned, occasional marking flecks etc., somewhat shaken: a number of the gatherings have sprung and are standing proud at the fore-edge, yet they are still firmly attached and the binding is solid. Lacking dust jackets. A large, heavy set that will require additional shipping to the amount automatically quoted, the cost varying according to destination. A solid but well used set - please read the description carefully. As is. Item #69974
