Item #70006 A Treatise on Angel Magic. John DEE, Thomas Rudd, Adam McLean.

A Treatise on Angel Magic.

San Francisco, CA / Newburyport, MA: WeiserBooks, 2006. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo. 226pp. Glossy illustrated card covers. B/w illustrations. A softcover reprint of the work originally published as No. 15 of the Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks series. A transcription by Adam McLean of this late 17th century manuscript (MS Harley 6482) by Thomas Rudd, which draws from the work of John Dee and others. McLean describes it as "one of the most important manuscripts in the British Library ... which includes wondrous sections of the Schemhamphoras, the hierarchies of fallen angels, rapturous Images of the Mansions of the Moon, evocation of the Nature Spirits, and John Dee's Enochian system of Angel conjuration." It is indeed a major magical text, compiled some two centuries after John Dee's death, but obviously drawing from his works. It was studied by a number of members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn including Aleister Crowley, and remains a primary sourcework for the study of Western "angel magick." Very light shelf rubbing, otherwise appears like new. A clean near-Fine copy. Item #70006
