B&W frontis portrait & diagrams. A facsimile printing of the First English edition of Paracelsus' "The Archidoxes of Magic. Of the Supreme Mysteries of Nature", which was translated by Robert Turner and published in 1656. This edition includes a new introduction by Stephen Skinner who was the publisher at the Askin Press as well as a noted occult author. This copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Skinner to Clive [Harper] on the first blank. Paracelsus (Phillipus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim: 1493 - 1541) was one of the first of the European alchemical writers to underline the link between chemical experiment and spiritual development, and is renowned both as a precursor of modern scientific medicine and chemistry, and in alchemical circles. His work is said to have had a profound effect on Dr. Dee and Francis Barrett, and through their writings, on the membership of the Golden Dawn and kindred occult groups and individuals. From the collection of bibliophile Clive Harper who is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Binding tight and clean, a hint of darkening to page edges darkened, Harper's neat ownership stamp on front free pastedown (hidden by dust jacket flap).
