Thelemic Magick Unexpurgated Commented. Part I / Part II Being Oriflamme Vol. VI, Number 5 [&] Vol. VI, Number 6 ( 2 Volume Set ).

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Society Ordo Templi Orientis, 1987 & 1991. First Editions. Softcover. Large octavos. 2 Volume set. Vol. I: xliv + 420pp. Original white wrappers printed in green. Color Plate. Index; Vol. II: xvi + 430pp. Original printed wrappers, b&w illustrations, index. Two pages of errata in Part II, one pasted onto the inside front cover and the other on page 324. The complete Marcello Motta / S.O.T.O. edition of Aleister Crowley's "Magick in Theory and Practice." Vol. I comprises Chapters I- XII of "Magick in Theory and Practice," along with Motta's notes and commentary, and an extensive (74 page) "reference index." A further 150 + pages are devoted to Part III of Motta's controversial "History of the O.T.O. Since Crowley's Death" ; then an "O.T.O. News" section in which Motta makes venomous comments about virtually everyone associated with Thelema since Crowley's death, and finally a selection of typically acerbic "reviews." Vol. II comprises Chapters XIII - XXI, and the VIII extensive Appendices of Crowley's "Magick in Theory and Practice," and a lengthy (31 page) index. The text is prefaced by a page on the Parzival XIo O.T.O. Foundation, which sought to continue Motta's legacy after his death, and an unsigned three page editorial, probably written by William Barden. The editorials and typography of Part II were done in Australia, the printing and binding in Brazil. Marcello Motta had died in 1987, and so the second volume did not include his commentaries, which were unavailable to the editors at the time of publication. Both volumes have been read, with Part I showing considerable were as a consequence. Covers darkened - more so at spines, a few corners bumped and creased. No internal marks to either volume. Laminate lifting from the edges of the wrappers of Part I, which is also somewhat grubby. It has the distribution label from the Australian branch of SOTO on the verso of the second title-page. A solid, but Good-only example. Part II is considerably less worn, and is around VG+ condition. All volumes in this series are scarce and sought after. Item #70234
