Two Volume Set. xxxii + 458pp & 488pp. Original crimson faux quarter morocco with gilt embellished crimson cloth boards, gilt titling and decorative rules to spines. Frontis, color fold-outs, b&w illustrations, Conspectus of Cross References. Although the work attracted some hostility from within the Masonic movement, Waite's "New Encyclopaedia" proved to be very popular, and was the most successful of his books in Waite's own lifetime. Gilbert A31(c). Boards lightly chafed, corners and spine ends lightly rubbed, page edges dusty and lightly thumbed. Cloth lightly discolored at bottom edge of Vol. I and top edge of Vol. II., a few corners of the boards very lightly bruised and rubbed. A little like flecking to first and last leaves of both volumes, otherwise a solid and bright, unmarked VG + set (no dust jackes - none issued?). Item #70307
