The Elder Edda of Saemund Sigfusson Translated from the original Old Norse text into English ... and the Younger Edda of Snorre Sturleson.

London: Norroena Society, 1907. Memorial Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. xiv + 352pp. Dark blue cloth, elaborately decorated in gilt on front board, gilt titling to spine. Colour half title page, colour frontispiece, and 3 full-page b&w plates, each with printed tissue guards. Top edge gilt, glossary. The "Memorial Edition" limited to 350 hand numbered copies, this copy not numbered. This volume - complete within itself - was part of a broad-ranging series of "Anglo-Saxon" classics published under the imprint of the Norroena Society. As the title indicates this volume presents translations of Elder Edda of Saemund Sigfusson and the Younger Edda of Snorre Sturleson, together with a Preface and Introduction. Gilt of spine a little dulled, a little light shelfwear, spine ends and corners lightly bruised and chafed. Small very faint brown spot to upper edge of front pastedown and front-free endpaper. Pages lightly toned but unmarked, a personal bookplate on the front pastedown. A tight clean, VG+ example of a very attractive edition (no dust jacket - probably none issued). Item #70324
