Publisher's red cloth with ilt titling to spine and upper board; b&w and colour plates. Arguably one of the best editions of this collection of essays and addresses on the Shakti Tantra Shastra - the work was extensively revised before the previous (third) edition, and this fourth edition incorporates all the revisions. Sir John Woodroffe (1865-1936), who also used the pseudonym Arthur Avalon. Woodroffe was a leading jurist who devoted much of his free time to the study of Sanskrit and Hindu religion, in particular tantrism, and was largely responsible for its introduction to the English speaking West through the books he wrote on the subject. Binding a little bruised, and with some rear-corners and spine ends lightly bumped. A tight and clean VG+ copy in G+ dustjacket. (Dust jacket is a bit age worn, spine faded, rubbed and chipped at edges and folds, folds reinforced at rear with acid-free tape. Not clipped. Now protected by removable mylar sleeve).
