The author, London-born Michael Howard (1948–2015), was active in British occult circles from his late teens onwards, and was a member of various occult groups including the Cultus Sabbati. He was a prolific author on Witchcraft and other esoteric subjects, and from 1976 until his death was the editor of the well-known British journal of traditional witchcraft, magic and neo-Paganism, "The Cauldron."
