Bronx, NY: Original Publications, 1991. First Printing of the Second Revised Edition. Softcover. Octavo. 219pp, (+ v advertisements). Glossy pictorial covers. B&w diagrams. "The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses" is arguably one of the most influential of all the grimoires. It was originally published in Germany in 1849 under the title 'Das Sechste Siebentre Buch' by Johann Scheibel, who claimed the seal and invocations in the book came from ancient Hebrew sources, particularly the Talmud, although Talmudic scholars generally refute this. It contains a series of magical incantations, spells and seals purportedly from the lost magical Books of the Biblical prophet Moses. The work spread to America via the "Pennsylvania Dutch", and their "pow-wow" books. It began to appear in print in the late nineteenth century, and became popular in the African American South of the US, and also in the Caribbean and West Africa, making its mark on the Hoodoo, Rastifarian, and various African religious movements, as well as on European and American occultists. The editor of this new edition, Migene González-Wippler (b. 1936), is an anthropologist and Santeria initiate, who has written a number of books on different aspects of Santeria and the occult including "The Santería Experience"; "The Complete Book of Amulets & Talismans"; "A Kabbalah for the Modern World" and others.
