Item #70970 A Handwritten and Drawn Astrological Natal Chart, for Leo Senn Prepared by Aleister Crowley. Aleister CROWLEY.

A Handwritten and Drawn Astrological Natal Chart, for Leo Senn Prepared by Aleister Crowley.

NP, ND (ca. 1939). A single sheet of 8 x 6 inch thick (mould-made?) white note-paper with the O.T.O. "Udjat-eye, dove and chalice" lamen printed in red at the head of the page. On it a holograph natal chart for Marie Leo Albert Senn ("Leon Senn"), born 24-September-1889, at Guebwiller, Alsace, France; died 23-Sept-1969 in London, England. Comprising a central astrological grid drawn in black ink, page headed with "Leo Senn / Alsace" in the upper left corner and with various astrological symbols, numerals, etc. in black ink in Crowley's handwriting on the recto (the verso is blank). With the outbreak of war imminent in late 1939, Leo Senn apparently fled to London, where he chanced to meet Crowley in a cafe. The two had a mutual interest in chess and over the next four years met regularly to play (with Crowley apparently almost always the victor) until Crowley moved permanently out of London in late 1944 and they drifted out of contact. Senn apparently also had contacts within the French Government-in-Exile in London, which diary references indicate that Crowley hoped to exploit with regard to his poem "La Gauloise", but nothing seems to have come of that. The horoscope is not dated, but Crowley typically drew up people's charts at the time of, or not long after, their first meeting, so it was most likely done in late 1939 or early 1940. The document is guaranteed genuine (as are all items sold by us) and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. There are two light creases across the centre from having been folded, and rust marks from several paper-clips at the head of page (most visible on recto). Otherwise bright, clean, VG+ condition.
