The Equinox. Vol. I No. IX ,The Official Organ of the A.'.A.'.; The Review of Scientific Illuminism ( Volume One, Number Nine ).

London: Wieland & Co., March 1913. First Edition 'Edition de Luxe'. Hardcover. Quarto. pp. (xxvi) + 314 + (vi adverts). Original white buckram with gilt titling to spine. Top edge gilt. A rare example of the cloth bound 'Edition de Luxe', issue of 'The Equinox.' Although not stated, the 'Edition de Luxe' was limited to 50 copies, which were available only to subscribers, most of whom were members of Crowley's A.'. A.'., whereas the 'standard' issue had a print run of between 500 and a 1000 copies and was available to all comers. The 'Edition de Luxe' is of slightly larger format the 'Standard' issue as the page edges were not trimmed, and was also considerably more durable. Crowley was the editor and principal author of most of the volumes of "The Equinox," which contained a variety of poetry, fiction, and reviews - generally with esoteric themes - alongside a number of articles of occult instruction. The contents of this volume include: I.N.R.I. British Section of the Order of Oriental Templars; The Temple Of Solomon The King (Continued), Lines To A Young Lady Violinist On Her Playing In A Green Dress Designed By The Author, Energized Enthusiasm, The "Titanic", At Sea, Dumb!, The Vitriol-Thrower, The Fairy Fiddler, By Ethel Archer, An Evocation Of Bartzabel The Spirit Of Mars, The Testament Of Magdalen Blair, Ercildoune, My Crapulous Contemporaries, No, VII, A Galahad In Gomorrah, How I Became A Famous Mountaineer, The Tango: A Sketch, By Mary D'este And Aleister Crowley. The white buckram covers are somewhat darkened as always, there is a thin - quarter inch - darkened strip horizontally along the two-thirds of the top edge of the upper board; corners lightly bumped and rubbed. Endpapers unevenly toned, pages very lightly and evenly tanned. Upper corners of a few leaves of the preliminaries have a light crease, and a couple of tiny marginal tears. Otherwise the volume is tight, clean, fresh and in VG+ condition. No dustjacket (none issued). A moderatly large book that will require some additional payment for shipping and insurance in addition to the amount automatically listed. The exact amount extra will depend on the destination and the method used - we will calculate it and contact you once you've placed your order, or you can enquire beforehand. Item #71017
