Three Books of Occult Philosophy; [ Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series ]
St. Paul MN: Llewellyn Publications, 1993. First Edition Thus, Limited. Hardcover. Small thick quarto. lxxii + 938pp + 10pp. ads. B/w illustrations. Full black cloth with silver titling and rules to spine, speckled page edges, index. State First Edition (thus). A significant edition with extensive commentary by Donald Tyson - since author of "Liber Lilith" and many other works. Agrippa's "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" is arguably one of the most important and influential books on Magic ever published: it has been cited (and plagiarized) constantly since its publication. John Dee is said to have practically memorized it, and familiarity with it is said to be crucial to an understanding of his Enochian system of magic, later explored and developed by members of the Golden Dawn, including their 'enfant terrible', Aleister Crowley. Sadly - and oddly - this important edition was not released as a hardcover, but recognising its significance Donald Weiser spoke with Llewellyn and had a very small number of softcover copies rebound as hardcovers for purchase by select customers of Weiser Antiquarian Books. This is one of those copies. There were two issues: a few copies bound in leather and a small number in cloth. This is one of the cloth-bound copies. It appears "unused" and is thus in near Fine condition. No dust jacket - none issued. Genuinely scarce - it is unlikely that more than a dozen or so copies were bound thus. Please note: this is a large heavy volume, so additional shipping charges to the amount automatically indicated at the checkout will be required. The final sum is dependent upon the buyer's location and will be quoted to the prospective purchaser before their order is processed. Item #71459
