London, England: Herbert & Daniel, 1911. First Edition. Hardcover, Small Octavo [ 7 x 4 1/2 inches]. (viii) + 346 + (iv)pp. Buff coloured cloth boards with decorations and gilt titling. Printed on quality mould-made paper. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Decorated endpapers. Part of title-page and running titles printed in blue. A collection of short, amorous poems. An uncommon early mainstream publication of a poem by Aleister Crowley - in this case his work "Dora" can be found on pp. 80-81. "Dora" was one of his most popular lyrics, it was first published in his "Rosa Mundi, and Other Love-Songs" (1905); "The Collected Works, Vol.III" (1907); and "Ambergris" 1910. Langton was evidently quite impressed with the poem as he republished it in another anthology he edited, "By what Sweet Name?" in 1926. A "Fine-Madness" society flier loosely inserted at the rear confirms that the [penultimate] owner of the volume was the English bibliophile and Aleister Crowley scholar Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper (1942-2011). Nick was well known for his ability to discover long forgotten Crowley pieces, some of which he published in booklet form. After Nick's passing the copy passed into the collection of Clive Harper, and has his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is of course the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A lovely copy. Boards sharp and clean, a hint of toning to preliminaries and a few minor flecks, otherwise a tight, clean, VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket (jacket lightly rubbed and with a few tiny chips and tears at edges). Most uncommon thus. Item #71904
