Two Original Temple Banners - Eagle and Pelican - used in Fifth Degree Initiation Rituals of the Brocken Mountain Lodge of the Ordo Templi Orientis.
USA: (O.T.O.), ND [circa early 1980s]. Two shield-shaped temple banners - each approx. 28 inches across x 35 inches high, at their widest/highest. Both professionally printed on a nylon type fabric, with reinforced machine sewn borders, with the reverse of each black. The "Pelican Banner" shows a pelican in its nest with chicks, printed in white, black, and yellow on a blue background. Beneath the printed image is glued a cloth scroll with the text "TRUTH, SILENCE and LOVE" carefully hand printed in black letters on a white background by J. Edward "Jerry" Cornelius (Frater Achad Osher 583). The "Eagle Banner" has a double-headed eagle printed in black on a red background. Both banners were used in Fifth Degree initiation ceremonies in one or more of the O.T.O. lodges with which Cornelius was associated in the 1980s and 1990s. Unusual artifacts of the late 20th Century revival of the O.T.O. Both banners lightly creased from being folded but the creases would almost certainly flatten out when hung again, a few light dust-marks but otherwise near-Fine condition. Item #71939
