The Confessions of Aleister Crowley, An Autohagiography.

London: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1979. First Printing of "Corrected Edition" Hardcover. Large thick octavo. 960pp. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, b&w frontispiece and illustrations. The first printing of the revised and corrected edition of Crowley's monumental autobiography. Crowley had originally intended that it would be published in six volumes, but only two were released before the Great Depression and various internal disputes led to the demise of the publishers. The project languished uncompleted throughout Crowley's lifetime, and it was not until 1969 that "The Confessions" were published in this single volume abridged edition, edited by John Symonds and Kenneth Grant. In the ten years that passed between the publication of that edition and that of the present volume, much fresh information came to light enabling the editors to make numerous corrections and adjustments, including the identifications of at least one significant figure who they'd previously anonymised for fear of litigation. Kenneth Grant also added a short Preface, reflecting on the reception of the book, etc., that was not present in the earlier edition. Despite some excellent modern biographies of Crowley, "The Confessions" remains the major source-work, and essential to an understanding of Crowley's life and magick. Just a hint of light shelf-wear, overall a tight, clean and unmarked VG+ copy. Lacking dust jacket. Item #72020
