The Book of the Cave of Treasures: A History of the Patriarchs and the Kings, their Successors from the Creation to the Crucifixion of Christ.
London: Religious Tract Society, 1927. Hardcover. Large Octavo. xvi + 320pp. Original blue cloth with gilt titling etc. to spine and blind stamping to front cover. Frontispiece, 16 plates and 8 illustrations in the Text. A translation of the Syriac language text known as the "Cave of Treasures," which covers the period from the Creation to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and which in the title is said to have been compiled in the fourth century CE by Ephrem Cyrus but which modern scholars date to a period a few centuries later. Spine and part of rear board darkened, cloth of hinges and edges very lightly rubbed, small bump to corner of top board causing a light ripple to extreme corner of first few leaves. Edges of text block a little dusty, a little even pale toning to preliminaries. Still, internally tight, clean, and overall a VG+ copy of a very uncommon first edition (lacks the rare dust jacket).
