The Frozen Fountain: Being Essays on Architecture and the Art of Design in Space.
New York, NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1932. First Edition. Hardcover. Small quarto. xiv + 126pp + (+ at least 30pp of plates). Original black cloth lettered on spine and front cover, decorated endpapers, b&w frontpiece, over 30 pages of black & white diagrams and illustrations. Stated first edition. A selection of "Essays on Architecture and the Art of Design in Space" by Claude Fayette Bragdon (1866 - 1946) the American architect, author, and stage designer. Bragdon wrote a number of books on spiritual topics, including Eastern religions and reincarnation, and advocated a theosophical approach to building design, urging an "organic" Gothic style which he believed consistent with "natural order" - over the "arranged" Beaux-Arts architecture of the classical revival. Much of Bragdon's work would now be considered the early steps of the modern study of "sacred geometry." Spine a little faded, boards lightly rubbed at head and tail, top edge darkened, pages lightly toned but unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy, rather shabby G only dust jacket (jacket chipped, discolored and rubbed with some crudely repaired tears, now protected by removable mylar protective cover).
