A Primer of Higher Space (The Fourth Dimension).

Rochester, NY: Manas Press, 1913. First Edition. Hardcover, Octavo. (xii) + 80pp. Oriinal yellow cloth, with titling to spine and front cover. Pictoral endpapers, illustrations. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Bragdon "To my friend / Edward Wheelock / from / Claude Bragdon." A short study of the idea of the concept of the fourth dimension by Claude Fayette Bragdon (1866 - 1946) the American architect, author, and stage designer. Bragdon wrote a number of books on spiritual topics, including Eastern religions and reincarnation, and advocated a theosophical approach to building design, urging an "organic" Gothic style which he believed consistent with "natural order" - over the "arranged" Beaux-Arts architecture of the classical revival. Much of Bragdon's work would now be considered the early steps of the modern study of "sacred geometry." From the Foreword: "The Fourth Dimension of Space is a memory-haunting phrase, often heard, yet little understood. In this slender volume the author has attempted to explain what is meant by it, and to usher the reader into some of those fascinating halls of thought to which it is the door. Although the exposition is along known and already conventional lines, it is hoped that there is enough new and original matter to justify the book, and enough simplicity of presentation to justify it's title, "A Primer of Higher Space." Spine a little darkened, touch of shelf-darkening and rubbing to edges of cloth, otherwise a tight, clean, VG+ copy (believe no dust-jacket issued). Uncommon in first edition - especially so signed.
