Item #72175 A Handwritten and Drawn Astrological Natal Chart, for James Stanton Redditch Prepared by Aleister Crowley. Aleister CROWLEY.

A Handwritten and Drawn Astrological Natal Chart, for James Stanton Redditch Prepared by Aleister Crowley.

NP, 1943. A single sheet of 9 x 6 7/8 inch gray/blue letterhead with an image of a coronet printed in blue to the upper left, and 'Tredegar Park, / Newport, / Monmouthshire. / Tele. Newport 2875' printed in blue to the upper right. The page is headed “The Figure of the Heavens genethliacal concerning James Stanton Reddich” in Crowley's handwriting. Beneath this an astrological grid neatly drawn in blue crayon, together with the astrological calculations in the form of various numerals and astrological symbols and the date "June '43", all in black ink in Crowley's handwriting. The verso of the sheet is blank. The letterhead on which it is written is that of Evan Morgan, later 4th Baron, 2nd Viscount Tredegar (1893 – 1949), a poet and noted eccentric who had a life long involvement with the occult and who Crowley knew quite well. Crowley stayed at Tredegar Park, in South Wales, from Thursday June 17th through Friday June 25th, 1943, and given that, and the "June '43" written in the chart itself, it seems almost certain that Crowley prepared the chart during his stay with Morgan. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any mention of a James Stanton Reddich in the obvious biographical sources on Crowley, and we do not have time to look further, so the details of the acquaintance between the two are yet to be explored. Curiously there is a mistake in the chart, for it has Reddich's birth year as 1917, whereas English records indicate it was actually 1915, something of which Reddich himself may not have been aware, as he seems to have told the census in 1939 that he was born in 1917. The document is guaranteed genuine (as are all items sold by us) and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. There is a light crease across the centre from having been folded and there are some light marks on the verso. Otherwise it is bright, clean, and in VG+ condition. Item #72175
