New York, NY: G.W. Dillingham & Co., nd (circa 1910). Reprint. Hardcover. Small 8vo. 326 pp + 4 pp of adverts. Original black cloth, blind stamped, gilt title, etc. to spine. A curious work by the French barrister and colonial judge Louis Jacolliot (1837 - 1890). Jacolliot was a prolific author, whose works - though now generally considered quite eccentric - found much favour at the time, being cited by the likes of Mme. Blavatsky. In this work he argues that much in the Bible is derived from Indic sources, citing numerous examples from Sanskrit texts etc. Covers show overall rubbing and wear, cloth heavily flecked, gilt titling a bit faded, edges and corners lightly bumped, hinges slightly loose and reinforced inside with binder's tape but still quite sound, page edges and endpapers browned and lightly foxed, previous owner's signature to front end paper, minor browning to pages but text unmarked. Overall, clean better than Good copy. Scarce. Item #20053
