Item #32265 An Account of the Cosmogony, Anthropogeny, Religious Beliefs and Rites, Magic and Folk Lore of the Maori Folk of New Zealand. Section 1. Maori Ritual, Belief.

An Account of the Cosmogony, Anthropogeny, Religious Beliefs and Rites, Magic and Folk Lore of the Maori Folk of New Zealand. Section 1.

Wellington, NZ: Government Printing Office, 1924. First Edition. Softcover, 4to, 264 pp. Original printed wrappers, b&w plates, index. Fragile wrappers worn and chipped at edges and corners, spine neatly rebacked. A serious study, although obviously tainted by the standards of the time: whilst at pains to carefully chronicle them, the author is also dismissive of the "the lower phases of their religious beliefs and practices" - that is their "magic and puerile superstitions." Paper lightly and unevenly browned, and a little wrinkled, but text is unmarked. Overall a sound better than Good copy given the age and fragile binding. Item #32265
