Octavo. xxii & 366 pp. Contemporary half leather with cloth boards, blind rules and gilt titling to spine, color cloth backed fold-out frontis map, b&w plates. The first English language edition of this account of the travels of Louis-Marie de Carné ( 1804 - 1876 ), or Comte de Carné who was a French politician, journalist and historian who was a member of The Commission of Exploration of the Mekong. Spine and corners a bit chafed and bumped with some light chipping to leather and one inch tear at upper spine, inner hinges cracked but holding nicely. Text bright and unmarked with only a few pages lightly browned, matchbox sized square excised from inner margin of rear endpaper. Overall a solid and unmarked near VG copy. Quite scarce. Item #32419
