An important collection of French proverbs and popular sayings, their origins and folklore. Boards rounded at corners and rubbed, with about 20% of the original polished surface, and much of the gilt work rubbed away. Sympathetic nineteenth century reback also shows wear. Still the binding is strong and sound, and not unattractive in an "antique" way. Text clean and supple, with just a hint of discoloration. A strong, pleasant copy. Item #37986
