An unusual study of the mechanics of memory, by William Robert Bousfield (1854 – 1943), a Cambridge-educated scientist who went on to practice law and hold a seat in the House of Commons. With his health failing he turned he turned from physical science to psychology and the study of the mind, and devoted much study to the theory of engrams espoused by the little-known but influential memory researcher Richard Semon, which he explored and debated in the present work.
